The American Dream
So I was talking to a friend online this evening and I mentioned that I was stoked about finding a long lost blog of this creative attractive girl living up in new york city that I had lost track of awhile back. When I mentioned this he responded with “is that all you think about anymore? being in a realtionship?” I quickly responded with a No, I think about corn dogs and politics too before the following thoughts where exchanged.
++aetox (1:07:29 AM): is that all you think about anymore? being in a relationship?
crewshell (1:08:24 AM): no
crewshell (1:08:29 AM): i wanted to check out her blog agian
crewshell (1:08:30 AM): shes funny
crewshell (1:08:33 AM): she lives in new york
crewshell (1:08:36 AM): how would that work out anyway
crewshell (1:08:44 AM): though being in a relationship would be nice…
++aetox (1:10:07 AM): how would that work? you would move to nyc on a whim
crewshell (1:11:14 AM): haha
crewshell (1:11:16 AM): no i wouldnt
crewshell (1:11:17 AM): i need my job
crewshell (1:11:19 AM): i have debt
crewshell (1:11:24 AM): and my job gives me money to pay it
crewshell (1:11:29 AM): i’m living the american dream
++aetox (1:11:52 AM): boo on the american dream
++aetox (1:12:00 AM): i wanna move to iceland
And that my friend is the point of this post. I’ve lost my freedom. I lost my ability to pick up and do whatever I wanted and go where ever I wanted. To be honest I guess I never REALLY had that ability… you know, the pesky problem of paying for a plane or bus ticket or having a place to stay when I got someplace. But now, for the most part… I am much more tied down then I ever have been. And you know what.
I don’t like it.
I’m going to change it.

As I know more of mankind I expect less of them and am ready now to call a man a good man upon easier terms than I was formerly.

Right on sir!
Sure, it’s nice to have a secure job, knowing that you’ll be able to put food on the table and keep a roof over your head.. but then what? When’s the last time you’ve sat around, and were genuinely happy with just existing? Not anytime recently, I’d imagine.

Alas, freedom can feel as though it exists only for others while you toil away..is this the case or is it just a state of mind? Hmmm??
