Hungary Taxes Prostitution
Prostitution has been legal in Hungary since 1999. The government has zoned certain areas away from schools and churches as the stomping grounds for the worlds oldest profession however it just recently passed law that allows Prostitutes to apply for an entrepreneurial permit which will allow them to fully participate in the economy and tax system. This new step even allows for customers to receive a receipt after completing their “transaction”.
I’ve always been upfront on my views with this topic. People should live and let live. If someones actions do not hinder your freedoms then we a society have no basis to deny them the freedom to that behavior.
There are many things that I would not choose to participate in personally; however, I am able to separate my personal morals from what I think are fair playing rules for others.
Just because I wouldn’t do it does not mean it should be illegal.
Just because I would do it does not mean it should be legal.
I came up with a new quote yesterday.
Sometimes thinking only a little can be worse than not thinking at all.
P.S, QUESTION: Is that Lady with the receipt a Client or a Provider?

On the sands of hesitation bleach the bones of those who on the verge of victory, sat down to rest and in resting died.

I think that prostitution should be legal and regulated. If it were, the government could collect taxes, regularly tests the women for diseases. It would be easier to prevent child prostitution if all prostitutes had to be registered with the city, county, state, etc. Let people do what they want to do with their bodies, just like everything else. There’s actually precedence for this as well. During the civil war the government regulated prostitution which helped prevent the spread of disease among the troops. Prostitution would be less of a down and out profession if it were regulated. It’s still not great, but we could at least raise it to the level of stripping and pornography (which is really low still I know).

I agree. The problem arises when A) some individuals take your states of “raise it to the level” to mean that its morally ok or an ethical profession… they disagree that its either and so they feel as if you are telling them they should accept it. This reaction is wrong because your not saying prostitution is either of those things (though you may or may not believe it is) but instead are saying that its a personal choice of what consistenting adults do to their body and further by brining it out of the shadows we can increase the safety of the process and approach it in a more productive manner.
The Next area of contention is found in those individuals who not only disagree with the act on a value system level but feel that others must live by their same values and thus it should be illegal. I have issues with this on many levels but it boils down to what I mentioned before. You have a right to your value system, you do not have a right to force others into following that same value system. Your rights to dictate to others are only found in situations where others directly hinder your ability to follow your own pursuits and liberties and when they adversly affect your well being.
Is this TWO in a row we agree on? could be sign of trouble!
