Screen on the green

I am on the mall (writing this on my crackberry) where I and a friend are waiting for the “Screen on the Green” to start. We have been here since 7:05 and they just announced that the film will play till 10:55!! Who picks such a long movie for an event like this? Also one of the sponsors is HBO so what’s up with all of the old movies? Let’s get something after 1975 shall we? No, actually I don’t mind the old films. They add a sense of class to the whole event.

One thing I have noticed though, as I’ve sat her for the last hour is while we have probably 2000 plus people here I can only count a handful of African Americans… Isn’t DC primarily black? Does that community not know about the event? Or does it just not appeal to them to sit on the grass in the heat humidity and wait forever for this stupid film to start. Your guess is as good as mine. Maybe I should go find them, they might be doing something more enjoyable.

So you go anyways and don’t even tell me. That’s nice. I was there at 7 with a friend from work. The whole point of going that early is to get a seat. The movie can’t start until after the sunset since it needs to be dark. And the film wasn’t that long. It was only 100 minutes. And what’s wrong with classic films?. They’re all academy award winning productions. The next too are pre 1975 so you should be sure not to go since they aren’t modern enough for you. And as for the presence of “african americans” although I do not like to use that term for a variety of reasons, it was good to see that there were some considering the crowd that these films tend to appeal to. DC’s population may be mostly black, but that doesn’t mean that classic films interest them. Maybe you just shouldn’t go to screen on the green again if you can’t appreciate the event for what it is.

Sorry, after we spoke in the morning it slipped my mind that you were going as well. Nothing personal.

Well, the film may have only been 107 minutes but I was not expected it to finish at 10:55. Also, I was being sarcastic about the old films… thats why i wrote

“No, actually I don’t mind the old films. They add a sense of class to the whole event.”

I am sorry you dont like the term Afican Americans. What is politically correct changes like the wind and I’m not up to date. I did not mean to offend you. I brought up the lack of representation by blacks at the event in light that, while we are making much ground in the race department there is still, and will be for quite awhile, a very significant cultural divide.

Lastly, I can appreciate the event, that doesn’t however mean I can’t point out some of its flaws or poke fun at it. You seem to take everything I say so seriously and then come after me because of it!
